For Families

No one knows a child better than their family, that’s why your knowledge about your child’s likes and dislikes, personality, behaviour, and health are so important in the MOVE Programme approach. Not sure about MOVE and your role within it? Listen to Carolina share her experience with the programme and the difference it’s made to her daughter’s life:

If you child already attends a school that uses the MOVE Programme, have a chat with them about how you can get involved! If your child’s school doesn’t use MOVE but you think it would be beneficial for your child, you can either encourage the school to contact us, or you can get in touch with us directly and we can reach out to the school.

Related organisations

Contact provide a variety of information and support services for families with disabled children, including workshops and 1-to-1 appointments.

Action For Children provide support and short break services for families with disabled children.

Sibs UK provide support and guidance to siblings of disabled people. They also have advice for parents/carers. 

Council for Disabled Children have a range of free SEND resources on a wide range of topics.

The Disabled Children’s Partnership provide a platform for disabled young people and their families to have their voices heard. We are part of their 100-organisation strong coalition campaigning for better health and care services for disabled children.

KIDS provides a range of services to support disabled young people and their families, from information and advice to residential stays.

Equipment

Your first port of call for equipment should always be the NHS, but if you have been unable to source the equipment your child needs on the NHS, you can consult these organisations for support:

Whizz-Kidz provide wheelchair and mobility equipment for children and young people under the age of 18.

Designability offer a free Wizzybug powered wheelchair loan scheme for children up to 20kg.

Variety funds a range of specialist equipment for young people aged 18 or under.
